KS2 SATs papers are taken by pupils in school year 6 (when they are approximately 11 years old) as part of the National Curriculum Assessment programme. At Free Past Papers we offer FREE SATs papers to download so your pupils or children have the best opportunity to perform to their potential.
Free Past Papers provides FREE SATs papers for KS2 for everyone. We do not insist on registering your contact details and we do not offer anything to sell.
Usually in the second week of May, in their final year of KS2 education, children undertake KS2 SATs papers in three core subjects: English, Maths and Science. The fastest and most effective way to improve a pupil's performance at KS2 is by practicing exam conditions through taking past SATs papers. Below are all currently available KS2 SATs past papers in English, Maths and Science. As with all our past papers, these KS2 SATs past papers are FREE to download and use.
In 2012, SATs papers for KS2 will take place in the week beginning 14th May 2012. Level 6 optional SATs papers will take place on 21st May 2012 and 22nd May 2012.
Key Stage 2 English SATs papers have changed little since their inception. With the exception of 2009, pupils are given a reading comprehension task, a spelling task and two writing tasks. These are split into a shorter writing test and a longer writing test. Following Lord Bew's review of Key Stage 2 testing it was announced that pupils will, from 2012, no longer be given externally examined writing tests. This will be replaced with a teacher assessment of writing composition. Further to this, a new test encompassing spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary will be trialed in 2012 with the intention of rolling it out across the country in 2013. The review concluded that reading tests will continue to be externally examined, being refined over time and that speaking and listening tasks will continue to be teacher assessed.

Following a successful sampling trial in 2011, schools are now able to offer Level 6 English tests to pupils they deem capable. Unlike components of the standard level 3-5 English SATs tests, these tests are externally examined.

Following a successful sampling trial in 2011, schools are now able to offer Level 6 Maths tests to pupils they deem capable. These tests are actually being re-introduced since they were available between 2000 and 2002.
In Key Stage 2, Science pupils were (until 2011) expected to sit two formal written papers, both externally marked. For 2011 however, the decision was taken to scrap formal examinations in preference for a teacher assessment. Lord Bew's review of Key Stage 2 testing concluded that teacher assessments in Science would continue but that a selection of schools should take national sampling tests to monitor standards.
